Friends, what a year 2020 has been?! We have all been forced to do things differently, haven't we?!
At Valley View Assembly of God, we believe Christmas is more than a time to "gift" our families and loved ones! It's more than figgy pudding or Christmas movies!!
It's a time to honor the Christ Child's Birth. If it weren't for Jesus, we would have nothing to celebrate!
We have put our heads together and thought of a fun family activity for the Advent season. (Advent is the four (4) weeks leading up to Christmas.)
We are offering a Scavenger Hunt with a Christmas Theme! If you've been looking for a COVID-19 friendly activity to share with your family this Holiday, join in the fun!!
Here is how it works: 1) There will be a special ornament hidden each week during Advent.
2) Check the following areas, each week, for a clue to help you find it. Here are the sites: Valley View Assembly of God website (VVAGLC.org) Valley View AG FaceBook page Valley View Kid's Crusade FaceBook page Lake City Chamber of Commerce website (LakeCity.org) Lake City Graphic Lake City Shopper
The clues will be posted on these places each week on the following dates: Tuesday, December 1st Tuesday, December 8th Tuesday, December 15th Tuesday, December 22nd
3) If you find the ornament, return it to Valley View Assembly of God Church (305 West Grant Street, Lake City, Minnesota) where you can exchange it for a child's gift AND a Christmas ham for your family. The church office is open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday through Friday. One gift and one ham will be given away each week.
4) Search the next week's clue to see if the ornament was found each week! *Please note: Only one ornament per household will be accepted.
Here is your clue for Week 1 (December 1): There was an old historic place; Like the Inn from our story. Mary and Joseph brought Baby Jesus; He became the King of Glory. Lake City had an Inn; But now it's just a mystery. No longer standing tall; It's only a part of history.
Congratulations to Colleen, Brennan and Bayleigh Anderson, for locating the first hidden Advent ornament. They turned it in and received a special gift and a beautiful ham. You can look for the next clue Tuesday, December 8th, right here and and in the publications and media locations listed above.
Here is your clue for Week 2 (December 8): Just as an angel of the Lord stood before the shepherds, Lake City shines bright right now, At a place that has 10 letters.
Luke 2:8-9 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
Congratulations to our Week 2 winner, Miranda Koehler. Miranda, along with her grandfather, found the Advent ornament in PATTON PARK. She received a wrapped gift and ham! We've got two more clues left! Look for next week's clue on Tuesday, December 15th, right here and in the publications and media locations listed above.
Here is your clue for Week 3 (December 15): The shepherds saw the star up high shining in the East. They headed towards that star to leave gifts at Jesus' feet.
Matthew 2:9-10 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
The Week 3 Advent ornament was found.
Here is your clue for Week 4 (December 22): As we unwrap special gifts from under the Christmas tree, remember the precious love of Jesus; He was born to save both you and me.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
We've got a winner! Congratulations to Logan, Kenzie and mom Megan in finding the 4th Advent ornament, located under the Lake City Christmas tree at the Marina! They received the last ham and gift of the scavenger hunt season - and the Advent Star.
